Horse Meadows Knoll
It’s been just over a year that Horse Meadows Knoll in Harvard celebrated its opening to visitors. Thanks to the effort of the Harvard Conservation Trust, Sudbury Valley Trustees, and community members, the property with wetlands, endangered species, and a historic reservoir is preserved.
If you haven’t gotten a chance to walk the trail, now is a fantastic time. As the leaves are currently changing, the path at times feels like you are walking through yellow tunnels. Stop and hear woodpeckers through the wind as colorful leaves dance to the ground cinematically.
The hike is just about a mile, so it could be both a quick morning walk or an afternoon exploration with kids after school. What is a knoll anyhow? Essentially a round hill, and that is just what this walk is, a big loop on the side of a large hill of beautiful beech trees. That being said, the slope is quite an incline, which may not be easy for everyone. At the top of the ascent, there are grassy nooks that would be a lovely spot for a picnic or respite. Check it out; you’ll be pleased you did.
