Let's be serious; there is a common understanding of what a visit to the dentist is like. We had the nicest time visiting with Dr. Citrin, both hearing and seeing all the hard work she has done.

The waiting room of Thrive Dental Co. feels more like the reception area of a boutique hotel than that of a dentist's office. We grab fresh sparkling water and relax in a modern wing chair, noting all the sweet design choices. Countertop with industrial stools, check. Sputnik chandeliers, check. Clever tin toy bins that also serve as seats for kiddos while entertained on tablets, double-check.

Deep house chill music softy spills into the air, while natural light beams through the giant glass windows. Dr. Citrin comes out to greet us, and there is instant comfort. Her eyes reveal it all; she is 100% genuine.

We head into the conference room where she meets all clients on their first visit to talk about their oral health goals, "We do very individualized care, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all here. Health care is very personal." This sentiment of personalization is evident in the entire culture that Dr. Citrin is building with Thrive Dental. She explains, "I became a dentist for a lot of reasons. One reason is because I was scared of the dentist and didn't like my experiences. I thought I don't understand why it has to be this way; we should make it better." Her ways of making it better start with a client-centered approach through an environment with values such as education, hospitality, integrity, community service, joy, non-judgment, and empathy.

As she takes us for a tour around the practice, Dr. Citrin's excitement is contagious. It's easy to feel like you are part of something new and different that’s heading to make a lot of change. Examination rooms are designed like a fancy spa, streamlined and minimal. Not one instrument is visible anywhere. Patients settle under a weighted blanket and look up at the giant screen mounted on the ceiling that's ready for a round of x-ray consultations, followed by their favorite Netflix series. Leave your AirPods at home; she's got Bose waiting for you. When finished up, there is a brushing station awaiting patients with perfect lighting and a wall design reminiscent of peacock feathers. It is a dreamy place to gather oneself before returning to the outside world.

With all the beautiful fresh design touches aside, one of the most critical elements of Thrive Dental is its commitment to sustainability. Dr. Citrin has a commitment to running a sustainable, eco-friendly practice. From reusable bibs and glove recycling to biodegradable floss held in glass containers. Perhaps what's most special about Thrive is Dr. Citrin herself. She recently moved to Acton because she wanted to live in the community that she serves. Talking about these new chapters in her world, she smiles, "I want to support and be a part of the health of my community. I want to do something good in my life, to be something positive for my community." With Dr. Citrin's personality, values, drive, and goals for education and health within her community, it's exciting to cheer on Thrive Dental Co. as it grows.
